Tenchi Muyo! roughly translates into "This End Up" and "No Need for Tenchi". Starting in 1992, Tenchi Muyo! began as a simple anime series, as more fans bought the series AIC realised they had a good thing going. As a result Tenchi Muyo! kept on growing through 13 OAV episodes, 2 Tenchi Muyo! Specials, 2 Music Videos, a 26 episode TV series, 2 Magical Girl Pretty Samy OAVs, and a Magical Girl Pretty Samy TV series.

The whole story begins with the OAV series. A young man named Tenchi Massaki steals the keys to the family's shrine. He was told as a young boy that a evil demon was imprisoned in the cave. Tenchi often would sneak down to the cave to try and catch a glimpse of the demon.

Just on the last day of summer break Tenchi managed to get the keys from gis grandfather. He went straight to the shrine to find out if the old legends were true. At the end of the first episode we are introduced to the first of many female characters.
