In this graphic the board has been laminated with resist, imaged with a photo tool and the resist has been developed. These specific steps were covered in the sections covering the processing the inner layer.

The laminated resist was exposed to UV light using a photo tool to define an image and then developed. During developing the resist is removed from the areas where we want a copper built up. This is therefore the following steps are called an additive process.
