Pine Hill Waldorf School
Parent Handbook
Dear Parents,
Welcome to the Pine Hill Waldorf School. You may be interested to know that our school is one of 650 Waldorf Schools worldwide. In sending your child to Pine Hill, you are participating in a very large school movement that is expanding across the globe.
A Waldorf School differs from other schools in a number of ways. The purpose of this handbook is to provide you with an outline of the school's philosophy, curriculum, organization, procedures, and standards. This is the 1996 edition of the handbook, and it will be revised every three years. Please take the time to read it and feel free to direct any questions you may have to the school's Administrator.
Through the course of each school year, there are a number of ways in which you can continue to inform yourself about and become active in the life of the school.
- You may refer to the reading list on Waldorf Education and parenting at the back of the handbook and take advantage of the lending library in the school store.
- You should attend the class meetings offered by your child's teacher.
- You are invited to attend the Introduction to Waldorf Education workshop held each fall.
- You may also take part in various study groups and artistic workshops offered during the course of each year. Look for these offerings in our weekly newsletter, the Tuesday.
- You will be asked to take part in school fundraising activities such as the Christmas Fair and Spring Auction and in school work days.
- You may also be asked to help with class events, like field trips and plays.
- You may be elected to the Parent Council as a class representative, or to the Board of Trustees, or you may be asked to serve as a class coordinator.
You will find out more about these and other aspects of the school's life in the sections of the handbook which follow:
- Pine Hill's Mission
- Philosophy of the School
- The Curriculum
- Organization of the School
- School Procedures and Policies
- Communications
