"This is all a dream we dreamed one afternoon long ago"

I started seeing the Dead in March of 1973 -
I like to think of that show as the first "official" date that I had
with the man I am still with 25+ years later.
During the summer that same year, we went to to Watkins Glen Speedway to see the Allman Brothers, the Band and the Dead.
There were upwards of 500,000 people there - maybe the biggest concert ever? - certainly for that time.
I really went to that show because I thought Bob Dylan would show up - being so close to Woodstock and all.

We went to many, many shows over the next 23 years
("all the years combine"),
some of which I wrote reviews of and some of which I have CDs of.

When Jerry Garcia died on August 9, 1995,
I experienced the kind of mourning one would only expect
with the passing of a very dear friend -
which, in fact, he was, though we had never met -
well, at least not while he was alive ;-)
